Oakland

Apr-18-2008

Ok, so I don’t really have an excuse for not posting in the last week and a half because a lot has happened. I am going to Oakland now. I started last Wednesday. I am enjoying it so far. It is a lot different than anything I have ever done before, but I like it. The kids there have been really cool and have really helped me get adjusted. I am taking all honors classes except for Latin, so I have the same people in a lot of my classes which has also helped a great deal.

I was a little worried about Calculus because it is an AP class and I have not been preparing for the AP test at all this year. Cedar Hall was not going for that, but it was all that Oakland had, and Precalculus was stuff I did a long time ago. The second day I was in the class we started a practice AP test and have been working  on it the whole week. I was really worried about it, but the teacher told me today that I did really well on the multiple choice and that he hadn’t finished grading the free response. I know I did worse on it, because I just didn’t know how to do alot if it, but I think I can get it.

Life is very interesting, and I will try to update more in the coming days/weeks.

So a week ago monday I was told by Cedar Hall that I was getting kicked out for sure. Well Dad wasn’t very happy with that so he asked the board to reconsider. They make the final decision on Sunday night. In the mean time I have been trying to figure out what to do about school. I went to Oakland and they said I could go there to finish out the year and take a one month economics course to graduate in June. I also went to Cannon County High and they put together a schedule to get me graduated on time. The only thing was, I went through the wrong door when I came in and ended up in the gym. So I asked a group of students where the office was. One of them offered to show me. On the way when I told her why I was there she told me that I really didn’t want to go there. By the time I had reached the office I had two students tell me not to come there because it sucked, one student ask if I smoked weed and one ask if I had ever had trouble with the cops. Also the principal told me that the students were “Good kids” but that they were “normal” and that I would have to get used to a lot of things because I came from a select group. The way she said it made it very obvious what she was talking about. The fact that just from walking in I had met a girl who smoked marijuana showed the type of “normal” she was talking about. I think my best option is to go to Oakland. That is what I am hoping to do.
